Every single moment that we are stroking our beards and gazing at our navel and thinking about the world we’d like to be and singing “Kumbaya” is another day we’re not punching Bill O’Reilly in the nose. - Anthony Weiner

Protests are supposed to happen tomorrow after Friday prayers and a lot of protest coordination is supposed to happen through Egypt’s mosques. @sarahraslan tweeted to one of her followers that if the protests were going to happen on Sunday, the Muslims would stand guard for the Christians while they were in church.
Let it be known that the myth of inevitable religious conflict in the Middle East IS A MYTH.

Everton will dig in, and they will fight till the last whistle.
Steve McManaman

in His own words

Maybe it’s a function of me getting older, maybe it’s a function of me getting more mature, but things aren’t getting to me as badly as they used to.

I could preface this by saying that I’m a very quote-driven person. I have about 10-15 quotes by whoever taped up on my mirror and the adjacent wall in my bathroom. They go from Big Papi to Robert Downey Jr. to Bob Marley and Rabbi Moses ben Maimon. I read them now while I brush my teeth and use mouthwash, you know, stuff you’re not supposed to skimp on. The one that’s most important is Rambam’s - it’s a quote about having a temper and anger management.

I won’t lie - I have, in the past, exhibited poor anger management. So now whenever I feel angry, or I feel like I’m about to be angry, I think of the Rabbi’s quote, especially the part where it says “Those who have tempers - their lives are not lives.”

I also especially like Big Papi’s quotes - “I come to play everyday” and “When life give you lemons, smash em with a bat!”

So, with all this considered and in the back of my mind, I still cried when the university of choice (who I won’t call out, not yet) deferred me on Friday. I know it’s not a no. But it’s not a yes, and I was thinking negative and it took me a little while to get over myself. But you know how it can be, especially when you’re friends with smart people. They get in, I don’t, and it’s not fun. However I have come to two conclusions, thanks to my family and my own brain and G-d.

1) It’s not the end of the world. Two of my cousins applied to this university - one got in, one got declined. It fits that I should be in the middle. And there’s nothing wrong with the middle. G-d has a path for me. It probably doesn’t go the way I have planned.

2) I like to try and be interesting and not status quo. I have conflicting aspects of my personality, like anyone, but if you take me for who I am you’ll see that, above all, I’m not cut out to be like everyone else. Trust me, I’ve tried. So, I’ve sort of proven myself to be interesting and not status quo by getting deferred - I’m interesting, so they didn’t throw me out to begin with, but if I was status quo, I’d be in; status quo for them is smart with awesome grades.

It may be broken logic, but it works for me so I feel that’s all that matters. It hurt for awhile, but now it doesn’t, and as cliche as it is, it really doesn’t matter what other people think - it only matters what those you care about have to say. I wouldn’t be Maureen if it did matter to me. My whole family supports me, the real friends I have support me, so what the hell else matters?

this does:DEPORTES

Football: Jets today. Everybody wonders how we’ll top last week’s performance. Um, by being BAMFs? If I wasn’t obnoxious about this, I’d be a shit Jets fan. So J-E-T-S let’s get it.

Baseball: Bring it pleaseeeeeeeeee! Seeing Manny and Damon together when we play the Rays is going to be a blast. Fenway is going to light up when they visit Boston. I can’t wait. Plus I’m so fuckin sick of winter so summer hurrying on up is not disagreeable in the least to me.

Basketball: The Tar Heels definitely deserved the win against Clemson. It might be the streak, but I’d like to think that with the pressure off of Drew II, he can perform much better. Marshall can be a superstar, especially if he stays for three or four years. The Cs losing to Washington last night was upsetting but I wasn’t paying a whole lot of attention because I persuaded the fam to watch Iron Man 2. That was a real accomplishment, fuck getting into college.

Hockey: I don’t think the Devils can win when any of my other teams do but they sure can when all my other teams are losing. Worst team in the league, but every so often we pull off some okay wins. We’ll get it together, no worries. It just won’t be this year.

Soccer: Everton draws soooooooo much. I don’t like it - as an American and a soccer fan it upsets me. I just don’t like to see a 2-2 result game after game. The Derby went that way and this past game against West Ham. This is not how you move up the table. However, I DVRed one of the games we had on the Mothership and Steve McManaman had a nice quote about us - it’ll go up in a sec. WIN G-D DAMMIT. (that wasn’t what he said.)

Ite. I’ve got nothing more important to say. I do think it’s a little weird to listen to Bottoms Up and then Awesome G-d. I don’t know. Maybe it’s not as blasphemous as it seems.

Amezri @ tumblr: SGU’s Cancellation Halts Other STARGATE Projects

via SciFi Mafia:

Executive producer Joseph Mallozzi confirmed this news in his blog:

“…the cancellation of SGU is very bad news for those looking forward to an Atlantis movie.”

“I’m sorry to say but the cancellation puts the brakes on whatever progress the ‘SGA’ movie had made in the past…

This is bullshit, Mallozzi. I never felt bad for not watching SGU, and this doesn’t make me feel worse. WTFE.
